What Does it Mean to Be Anchored Together?

Different anchors shape our lives. The stories behind them are what bring us together.
Everyone has an anchor.
For some, it is family. For others, it is faith, service, friendship, community, or a sense of purpose. Sometimes our anchors are people. Sometimes they are places, memories, traditions, or experiences that remind us who we are and where we come from.
And sometimes we don't realize just how important an anchor is until life becomes rough.
That idea is at the heart of Anchored Together.
Our Anchors Don't Have to Be the Same
Anchored Together began with a simple realization: your anchor doesn't have to look like mine for us to understand how important it is.
Our own story has been shaped by family, military service, faith, loss, friendship, and a desire to continue serving others.
Twenty years of Navy life taught our family a lot about change. Duty stations change. Orders change. Friends come and go. Families learn to say goodbye, adjust, reconnect, and sometimes start over somewhere completely new.
Through all of that, you learn the importance of having something—or someone—that keeps you grounded.
For us, family has always been one of those anchors.
Anchored Through the Hardest Moments
Being anchored doesn't mean life is always calm.
An anchor matters most when the water isn't.
Our family has experienced wonderful moments together, but we have also experienced profound loss. In January 2005, we lost our daughter, Amanda Bethany, six months into the pregnancy.
There are experiences that divide life into before and after. Losing a child is one of them.
Amanda never had the opportunity to grow up alongside her brothers and sisters, but that doesn't make her any less a part of our family or our story. Her life, however brief, left an imprint that remains with us today.
Through that loss, we learned how important our anchors truly are—the people we love, our faith, our family, and those willing to stand beside us when there are simply no words that can make things better.
Amanda will always be part of our family. She will always be part of our story.
And that experience helped teach us something that would eventually become central to Anchored Together:
Sometimes an anchor doesn't remove the storm. It simply reminds you that you don't have to face it alone.
Service Doesn't End With the Uniform
After twenty years in the Navy, the uniform eventually came off, but the desire to serve didn't.
Our connection to veterans, military families, spouses, community organizations, and people who simply believe in supporting those around them continued.
Along the way, we kept meeting people with their own stories.
Veterans whose anchors were the people who once stood beside them.
Military spouses who held families together through deployments, moves, long hours, and uncertainty.
Parents whose children gave them purpose.
People whose faith carried them through circumstances they never imagined facing.
Friends who became family.
Volunteers who found purpose by serving their communities.
And ordinary people who discovered that sometimes simply showing up for another person can make an extraordinary difference.
Their anchors weren't necessarily ours.
But we understood what it meant to have one.
That's Where Anchored Together Comes In
Anchored Together is more than a name.
It's the idea that people with completely different backgrounds, experiences, beliefs, and stories can still find common ground.
We're building a place where those stories can be shared.
Some will make you laugh. Others may make you think. Some may introduce you to a veteran, military spouse, volunteer, organization, family, or everyday person you otherwise would never have met.
You'll also find products inspired by those stories, communities, traditions, humor, service, and the things people hold close.
But the product isn't the story.
The people are.
That's why you'll see us ask one question again and again:
What Anchors You?
There isn't a correct answer.
Maybe it's your spouse.
Your children.
Your faith.
Your military brothers and sisters.
Your morning cup of coffee.
Your hometown.
A friend who always answers the phone.
A cause you believe in.
A memory you refuse to let fade.
Or perhaps you're still discovering what your anchor is.
Whatever the answer, there's probably a story behind it.
And we want Anchored Together to be a place where those stories matter.
Different Anchors. Different Stories. One Community.
That's more than our tagline.
It's what we're trying to build.
A community where we can celebrate the things that keep us grounded, recognize the people who serve others, support organizations doing meaningful work, share some laughs along the way, and remind one another that none of our stories have to look exactly alike for us to stand together.
So as we begin sharing stories here, we'll start with the same question we hope to ask thousands of people in the years ahead:
What anchors you?
We'd love to hear your story.
